Juliette Schneiderman - Specialist Literacy Teacher

Professional Experience

Juliette grew up in London and graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) Degree from Oxford Brookes University. She subsequently completed the RSA Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties at University College London, qualifying as a specialist teacher. She later achieved the OCR Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties at Fairley House School, London, gaining specialist assessor status.

Juliette’s early teaching career began with Westminster Council, where she taught a vertically grouped Reception and Year 1 class. She also worked with Harrow Council in a specialist autism unit within a mainstream primary school. The majority of her career was spent at King Alfred School, London (Independent), where she worked for over thirty years. Initially, she was the Reception teacher and part of the 4+ Reception entry assessment team. Once she had her own children, Juliette worked on a part-time basis as a specialist literacy teacher within the Lower School Curriculum Support Department.

For the past ten years, she has also worked privately from home. She recently left her school-based role to expand her private practice. Juliette now focuses primarily on specialist literacy teaching and continues to offer consultation and support to parents in understanding and interpreting diagnostic reports.

More about me

I am a specialist teacher, assessor and mother of three. As a parent of a child with specific learning difficulties, I understand first-hand the emotional impact these challenges can have on a child’s confidence and self-esteem. This personal experience enables me to empathise with parents’ concerns at both school and home.

I offer one-to-one literacy sessions for primary aged children (5-11 years). Throughout my career, I have maintained a passion for literacy and the development of reading and writing skills.  My postgraduate training has enabled me to work extensively with learners with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties (SpLD) both in school settings and independently.

Given the frequent co-occurrence of dyslexia/SpLD, I have had experience supporting students with speech and language difficulties, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (DCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism (ASC).

I consider myself a creative teacher, receptive to trying different methods, incorporating multi-sensory teaching tailored to each child’s unique learning style. Using informal and diagnostic assessment, I design structured, cumulative intervention programmes that build on strengths while addressing areas of difficulty. My core ethos is not only to develop skills but also to strengthen confidence and self-belief.

I am happy to work with students who have not undergone a full diagnostic assessment as well as those assessed by other professionals. Where appropriate, I liaise closely with schools and external agencies to ensure cohesive and effective support.

To remain current in the field of SpLD, I regularly attend professional courses, seminars, lectures and webinars.
