Specialist Neurodevelopmental Assessments in North West London
Gold Standard Neurodevelopmental Assessments for Under and Over 18’s
We only offer Gold Standard Assessments following National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Royal College of Psychiatrist Guidance and Standards. Our expert clinicians collect information from a variety of sources using a variety of clinical methods and are able to consider different clinical possibilities for you or your child’s challenges.
We pride ourselves on providing the highest assessment standards and quality. In this multi-disciplinary assessment, we always use at least two experienced assessors from different professions - one of whom is a Psychiatrist or Clinical Psychologist.
What Is A Neurodevelopmental Assessment?
-
A Neurodevelopmental Assessment is a detailed evaluation used to understand how a person’s brain development affects their thinking, behaviour, learning, and daily functioning.
It’s commonly used when there are concerns about conditions like Autism Spectrum Condition/Disorder (ASC/ASD), Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disabilities, and/or Developmental Delays.
-
The assessment explores several areas, such as:
Cognitive abilities (thinking, problem-solving, memory)
Communication and language skills
Social interaction
Attention and concentration
Motor skills (movement and coordination)
Emotional regulation and behaviour
-
The goal is to:
Clarify whether a neurodevelopmental condition is present
Identify strengths and challenges
Guide support, treatment, or accommodations (like school or workplace adjustments)
-
The primary difference is that psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication and treat severe mental illnesses, while psychologists hold doctoral degrees and focus primarily on psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and psychological assessments without prescribing medication.
-
Combined Neurodevelopmental Assessments at West Hampstead Child & Young Person Clinic start from £3,200 and is inclusive of the assessment, questionnaires, appointments, multi-disciplinary team meetings, feedback meeting(s) and report.
Our wait time is approximately between 4 - 8 weeks, depending on the type of assessment and time of year. If you would like an updated timeframe, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
-
As a first step, we would suggest booking an initial 15-minute free consultation with a senior clinician. During this consultation, you’ll be able to discuss any presenting concerns and discuss options for the assessment.
Following the consultation, the admin team will be in touch to guide you through the process and arrange the assessment.
You can book an initial consultation here via the online link, or via telephone and email.
