Katherine Shillito - Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist

Professional Experience

Katherine qualified as a psychodynamic child and adolescent psychotherapist in 2017 after working for a number of years as an assistant SENCo in an independent school. Since then, she has worked mainly with 11-25 year-olds in community settings, which has afforded the chance to work with young people from diverse backgrounds and cultures with a wide range of presenting problems. She has led counselling services in three secondary schools and in a youth offending service, trained social care staff in therapeutic interventions, provided supervision to trainee therapists, and also worked in private practice.

More about me

Young people come to therapy for many reasons. I aim to meet each person where they are and work with them to recognise what they feel and want and formulate where they'd like to go from here. I initially trained in psychodynamic therapy, which supports understanding of unconscious processes that might be driving emotions or behaviour. However, my approach also encompasses tools from other modalities as best suit the client. I have a strong interest in practical ways of supporting the nervous system so that people can feel empowered outside of the therapy room. As such, I have additional training in energy psychotherapy methods (e.g. self-administered acupoint tapping) and I am a qualified Soma breathwork instructor.

Although not quite 10 years post-qualifying as a therapist, she has been invited to join the team due to her impressive experience and therapeutic capabilities.
