Professional Experience
Natalie Turner is a qualified Systemic & Family Psychotherapist and a Psychodynamic Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist. Natalie has worked with young people for over 15 years in a number of different settings: community centres, primary and secondary schools, an adolescent psychoanalytic charity and a youth offending service. For the past 4 years Natalie has worked in a specialist CAMHS (child & adolescent mental health service) as a Family Therapist, working with families both as an individual therapist and within a family therapy clinic.
Throughout her career, Natalie has come to understand the importance of being interested in viewing a young person within their different contexts: family, peer, school and their wider social and political contexts. She works with young people who present with a number of different struggles, including complex mental health.
More about me
I initially trained as a Psychodynamic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist working with young people individually. I became interested in how the dynamics of the young person’s family and their wider context impacted them. I decided to study further and qualified as a Systemic & Family Psychotherapist.
When working with families I believe in creating a curious space in which the patterns of communication can be explored and multiple perspectives held. I keep in mind my psychodynamic training and experience, particularly when thinking about unconscious patterns, which might be an intergenerational legacy. When I meet with families, I aim to help them to set mutual goals, to view behaviour as a communication and link this to a feeling and an invitation for a response. I believe in working within a compassionate framework, drawing on the strengths of the family. I aim to co-construct a space with the family in which difficult conversations can be held and change can be thought about.
